Do You Have A Mission Statement for Your Event?

Developing a specific mission statement will focus and drive your event.  Your mission statement should be precise and measurable.

Here is an example of a mission statement that lacks focus:

We will hold a golf event to raise money for our non-profit organization.

Here are examples of mission statements that are effective:

Our golf event on August 8, 2008, is being implemented to raise a net $25,000 for the Oakland County Hospital Foundation and expose players and sponsors to the purpose of the foundation.

The Atlanta Soccer Club will hold a golf event on June 20, 2008, to raise a net $10,000 for the 18 and under soccer team to attend the Nike Tournament in Bakersfield, CA, in the fall of 2008.

Note: Setting fundraising goals for your event is crucial.  Always set your goals based on the net amount you want to raise. The “net amount” is defined as the money remaining after all the expenses are paid.
