How Volunteers Help?Volunteers will prop up your event, keep its cost lower and provide an opportunity for donors and non-golfers in your organization to participate in the event in a meaningful way – this will ensure that they feel like a valuable component of your event. For most events, volunteers are drawn from employees, donors, suppliers and other groups (schools, community service organizations) looking for community service hours. Volunteers are primarily used on event day and help in several ways: 1. Volunteers should help with event preparation: setting name tags, assembling goodie bags for players and placing signs on the course. 2. Volunteers can help create a first class atmosphere for all players by working as greeters near parking lot entrances, organizing and executing the registration process and directing players to areas designated for food, contests, or to their carts to begin the event. 3. Volunteers are your eyes and ears during play and all other phases of the event. Key volunteers need to be issued communication devices, such as radios, so they can contact individuals in charge when situations arise.
Important Tip: Provide volunteers with a good experience to bring them back every year. Give them a shirt and nametag for a professional look. Be sure to include them in meals and, of course, recognize them at the award’s ceremony. On the next page we have designed a sample volunteer activity grid. The grid breaks down all volunteer responsibilities and the timing of each volunteer position. When you create your own volunteer assignment spreadsheet and schedule, it should resemble our outline below - obviously some details may vary. Download an example of a Volunteer Activity Grid.
