About Camp Kesem

Camp Kesem is a free overnight summer camp for children ages 6 –13 and teens 14-16 of all races, religions, nationalities and financial statuses with a parent who has or has had cancer. Children of cancer patients are an often overlooked population with few or no support services available to them.

At Camp Kesem, campers enjoy a “magical” free week of overnight summer camp, filled with non-stop fun, activities and growth, in a safe place away from home, with peers facing similar challenges and supportive adults. Children return home from Camp Kesem with new friendships, confidence, self-empowerment and renewed strength to cope with their parent’s illness or premature death from cancer.

Camp Kesem is created by college student volunteers with a proven history of channeling their energy, passion and commitment toward successful program development and fundraising for the benefit of their community.

Camp Kesem has a two-fold mission

• To provide children with a parent who has or had cancer with a summer camp experience that gives them a chance to be kids.

• To allow college students to channel their passion for making a difference, while developing critical leadership skills for long term social impact.

Camp Kesem is a 501(c)3 national nonprofit organization with 23 camps in 14 states across the US. This summer over 1400 children will benefit from Camp Kesem.

Camp Kesem UC Davis has served the Sacramento area since 2005, this summer approximately 60 children will benefit from the fun, friendship and support of Camp Kesem UC Davis. Even before the first campfire, UC Davis student leaders are looking ahead and planning for Camp Kesem 2011. With support, 75 – 80 campers will have Camp Kesem available to them in 2011.
