Dan
and Lisa Puthoff's son, Gabriel, was born in December 2001 with a
neural tube defect known as Spina Bifida. Immediately following his
birth, Gabriel was transported to the NICU at Rainbow Babies and
Children's Hospital in Cleveland, OH where he underwent several
surgeries in the first couple of weeks of life. Since this time, as a
family, we have been introduced to a world we never knew existed.
Throughout this time we have met countless individuals who have made it
their life's work and passion to treat, care for, and inspire children
with disabilities to lead full, productive, and happy lives.
As
a result of these experiences, we felt and continue to feel an enormous
debt of gratitude that these people and organizations exist for
children like Gabriel. As an expression of this gratitude, we
organized the Shining Light Charity Golf Scramble in 2002. In 2004, we
formed an IRS registered and recognized 501(c)3 Not-for-Profit
organization. In 2008, we held our 6th event and it marked the first
year in Cincinnati.
Mission
The mission of the
Shining Light Charity is to raise money to benefit organizations that
provide care to children with disabilities.
More specifically, our
primary focus is on organizations that offer programs designed to help
disabled children more fully participate in sports and physical
activities.
